Frequently asked questions about parking

Parking complaints can be submitted using the online Report It form. Parking is enforced through the South Huron Parking By-Law by Municipal By-Law Enforcement.

Where appropriate signs are erected and are on display no person shall park or allow a vehicle to stand upon any part of any street between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. local time on the highways or parts of highways as designated by the signs, unless the owner of the vehicle has obtained an Overnight Parking Permit from the Municipality of South Huron.

Unpaid Parking Ticket

  1. You have 15 days from the date the Notice of Infraction (parking ticket) is issued to pay the parking ticket.
  2. Following those 15 days, you will receive a Notice of Impending Conviction in the mail, this Notice has a set date that the ticket must be paid by.
  3. If the ticket remains unpaid following the date listed on the Notice of Impending Conviction the ticket is forwarded onto the County Provincial Offences Office. The Municipality is no longer able to collect payment for the ticket at this point.
  4. Once with the County Provincial Offences Office, you will receive instructions from them regarding next steps.

Voluntary Paying of a Parking Ticket

Cheque

Payments by cheque are to be made out to the Municipality of South Huron and can be delivered to the Municipal Office at 322 Main Street South, Exeter or by mail to;

Cash

Payments by cash can be delivered to the Municipal Office at 322 Main Street South, Exeter. Please ensure that you include your name, address and the parking infraction number to ensure that the payment is applied to the correct ticket.

Debit

Debit payments can be made at the Municipal Office located at 322 Main Street South, Exeter.

Credit / Online Payments

Online payments can be made by Credit Card through South Huron's eCommerce website. To register for online payment please follow these instructions. Please ensure you have your credit card, ticket number and licence plate number ready as this information is required to complete the payment.

Trial / Appealing a Parking Ticket

  1. You or your agent must attend in person at the Municipal Office located at 322 Main Street South, Exeter within 15 days of issuance of parking ticket to file a Notice of Intention to Appear in Court
  2. You or your agent must bring the Notice of Infraction (parking ticket) with you, you will sign the Notice of Intention to Appear in Court and Municipal staff will forward same to the County Provincial Offences Act Office
  3. The County Provincial Offences Act Office will be in touch directly to set the date of the trial, you or your agent, along with the issuer if the parking ticket will attend court for the trial
  4. You cannot set a trial date by mail
  5. For your convenience and to save time in filing a Notice of Intention to Appear in Court, you may call the office in advance for an appointment at 519-235-0310.
