How to apply for a marriage licence

1. Review the requirements to get a marriage licence and guidelines on re-marrying after a divorce, if applicable.

2. Book an appointment online. Please note that the appointments are booked at least 5 days in advance. The booking must be made in the name of one of persons applying for the marriage licence at info@southhuron.ca.  

3. Complete a marriage licence application online. One of the applicant’s name on the application must be the same as the name on the appointment booking. Please send completed application with copy of ID and any required paperwork to info@southhuron.ca

4. The marriage licence can now be paid by credit card using ePay Online or by bringing cash to the appointment. To register for online payments please follow these instructions, when registering for online payments you will be re-directed to the eCommerce website.  Payment must be made 5 days prior to your appointment if using this option. Debit will also be available at Town Hall during your appointment.

5. Attend your appointment.

What to Bring to your appointment

Bring all of the following to your appointment:

  1. Completed original application dated with original signatures (applications with scanned, photocopied or electronic signatures will not be accepted).
  2. Two (2) pieces of original and valid government issued ID for each person from the list of acceptable ID (expired identification will not be accepted).
  3. Original and/or a certified true copy of divorce documentation, if applicable. 
Interpreter
  • If you cannot read or understand English, you must bring someone who can interpret for you.
  • This person must present their own identification.
What to expect at your Appointment

Please read before coming to your appointment.

  • It will take approximately 15 minutes to process your application and issue the licence. Please note that washrooms are not available.
Civil Marriages

Civil marriages allow you to personalize your wedding ceremony, making it as simple or as special as you wish. If you are interested in a civil marriage, please contact us for a copy of the service guidelines and a Marriage Officiant Booking Agreement Form.

Fees
  • Marriage Licence fee - $125.00
  • Civil Marriage fee - $300.00 during business hours at the municipal office. 

The fee for a civil marriage does not include fee for marriage licence, these are separate costs. 

Applying for a Marriage Certificate

You may apply for a marriage certificate from Service Ontario six to eight weeks after your marriage ceremony. There are a few ways to apply:
