South Huron ends Significant Weather Event declaration
Staff and contractors continue to clear accumulated snow from municipal roads and sidewalks.
With improvements made and a break in the weather, the Municipality is now able to end the Significant Weather Event declaration as of 4:00pm, December 4, 2024. Now that the Significant Weather Declaration has ended, standard timelines for municipal winter maintenance activities will begin again.
All roads remain open, however, drivers are advised to use caution, especially in areas where high snowbanks reduce visibility:
- Slow when approaching intersections and take an extra moment to watch for other vehicles or, in urban areas, crossing pedestrians
- Back into laneways whenever possible
Challenges remain for work crews including packed snow on rural and urban roads and limited space to store plowed snow. To address this, all municipal equipment continues to be deployed along with additional contractors lending support.
More snow removal is planned for tonight in Exeter. To assist this work, do not park on the street overnight.
The South Huron Landfill will remain closed to the public until further notice with the current priority being to enable access for Bluewater Recycling on Friday for garbage and recycling service.
Staff have been working their way through the municipality clearing hydrants and the municipal water and wastewater systems remain fully operational and in regulatory compliance.
Thank you to our contractors and to everyone for your support and patience while we continue to clean up the accumulated snow.
