Victoria Street East Reconstruction

Overview

The construction project is on Victoria Street East from Main Street to the east end of Victoria Street and is a full reconstruction project. The project is located in close proximity to the Exeter Elementary School, Relouw Early Childhood Learning Centre and South Huron Recreation Centre. Additional measures will be put in place for safe access to these facilities.

The construction work involves the replacement of existing road, curbs, sidewalks, storm sewers, sanitary sewers and watermain, including upgrades such as sidewalk improvements, AODA compliant sidewalk ramps, and a pedestrian crosswalk at the entrance to the South Huron Recreation Centre.

In order to accommodate access to Exeter Elementary School and Relouw Early Childhood Learning Centre, the construction project will be constructed in three phases in 2025, with the final layer of surface asphalt being placed in 2026.

• The first phase of the project is from Main Street to Andrew Street, with replacement of all underground infrastructure, installation of new curbs, sidewalks, and base asphalt. This section of roadway will be closed with access for local traffic only.
• The second phase of the project is from Andrew Street to the pillars, with replacement of all underground infrastructure, installation of new curbs, sidewalks, and base asphalt. This section of roadway will be closed with access for local traffic only.
• The third phase of the project is from the pillars to the east end, with replacement of all underground infrastructure, installation of new curbs, sidewalks, and base asphalt. This section of roadway will be closed with access for local traffic only. Phase three is scheduled during the summer months when the Exeter Elementary School is not open.

Like all reconstruction projects, the work is invasive and there will be noise, dust and vibration and there will be access challenges during construction. The project team is committed to providing ongoing communication about the project to alleviate the impact of construction as much as possible.

Project Timeline

The first phase of the construction project is scheduled to begin as early as April 2025 and is expected to be completed by May 2025.

The second phase of the construction project is scheduled to begin immediately after completion of phase 1 and is expected to be completed prior to the end of June 2025.

The third phase is scheduled to begin as soon as the elementary school year has ended and will be completed prior to the start of the school year in September 2025.
