The Municipality of South Huron invites applications for the position of Environmental Services Summer Co-Op Student. This position assists in the day-to-day operations for environmental services in an effective, efficient, safe and environmentally responsible manner. This position will involve fire hydrant maintenance, valve operation and maintenance, water and wastewater sampling, water distribution repairs under the direction of the Environmental Services Foreman. This position will also include monitoring compliance with provincial and federal regulations and maintain necessary records.
The ideal candidate must have:
• Secondary School Diploma or equivalent education and experience.
• Completion or working towards University degree / College diploma in Environmental Technician – Water & Wastewater System Operations or equivalent.
• Operator in Training (OIT) certification in water distribution, water treatment, wastewater treatment, and sewage collection systems.
• Required health and safety training certification will be provided.
• Standard First Aid with CPR & AED Level C is considered an asset.
• Confined Space Entry (CSE) Certification is considered an asset.
• Valid G Class Driver’s License with a driver’s abstract deemed satisfactory by the Municipality.
• Works effectively as a member of a team.
· Working Conditions:
Work involves a substantial amount of heavy lifting, carrying, crawling and climbing. Operations continue in all weather, including sever conditions such as freezing roads, blizzards and white outs with poor visibility, slippery conditions and confined spaces. Regular work in environmental hazardous conditions (i.e. wastewater treatment plant, and sewage pumping stations). A high degree of mental alertness is required to ensure the safety of self and others as working with heavy equipment, vehicles, unpredictable traffic conditions, tolls and hazardous chemicals is required. Hours of work are scheduled within the core operating hours of 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. After hours call-in and overtime may be required during emergencies.
Hourly Range:
$26.21 per hour.
