The Municipality of South Huron invites applications for Seasonal Equipment Operators, to assist in day-to-day winter operations for the Transportation Services Division in an effective, efficient, safe and environmentally responsible manner. Monitor municipal roads to provincial minimum standards, conduct repairs, and maintain necessary records. Provide winter control, road and sidewalk maintenance under the direction of the Manager of Transportation Services.

The ideal candidate must have:
• Secondary School Diploma or equivalent education and experience.
• Possess a valid DZ license, AZ license would be considered an asset.
• Driver’s abstract deemed satisfactory by the Municipality.
• Experience as a heavy equipment operator.
• Works effectively as a member of a team.
• Knowledge of the Ministry of Transportation regulations and minimum maintenance standards, as well as provincial occupational health and safety standards.
• Effective inter-personal, management, and written and oral communication skills.
• Proper operation, care and maintenance of departmental equipment and other resources of the Transportation Services Division.

Working Conditions:

Work involves a substantial amount of heavy lifting, carrying and climbing. Operations continue in all weather, including severe weather conditions such as freezing roads, blizzards and white outs with poor visibility and slippery conditions. A high degree of mental alertness is required to ensure the safety of self and others as working with heavy equipment, vehicles, unpredictable traffic conditions, tools and hazardous chemicals is required. A flexible schedule is required to account for operational coverage outside of core hours, including emergencies, holidays, weekends, on-call and seasonal shifts.

Hourly Range:

$30.97 to $36.43 per hour.

The Municipality of South Huron invites applications for the position of Foreperson of Transportation Services. Under the direction of the Manager of Transportation Services, this position is responsible for supervising staff and the day-to-day operations of the transportation department and maintenance of vehicles and small engines. This position is responsible for monitoring municipal roads to meet provincial minimum standards while ensuring excellent customer service is maintained at all times. This positions also includes the organizing and planning of incoming work orders, and orientation and training of new employees on the safe operation of equipment.

The ideal candidate must have:

·         Secondary School Diploma or equivalent education and experience.

·         College diploma in transportation or civil engineering

·         Certified Roads Supervisor (CRS) designation, or willing to work towards

·         Knowledge of the Ministry of Transportation regulations and minimum maintenance standards, as well as provincial occupational health and safety standards.

·         Minimum of two (2) years experience as a municipal equipment operator

·         Possesses strong management and supervisory skills, record keeping, problem solving, project / time management, analytical, communication skills, both oral and written and shall exhibit excellent interpersonal skills.

·         Ability to think and act appropriately in a political and community service environment and to deal courteously and effectively with elected officials, the general public, residents, staff, other departments, corporate contacts and other levels of government.

·         Possess a valid DZ license with a driver’s abstract deemed satisfactory by the Municipality.

·         Proper operation, care and maintenance of departmental equipment and other resources of the Transportation Services Division.

Working Conditions:

Operations continue in all weather, including sever conditions such as freezing roads, blizzards and white outs with poor visibility and slippery conditions. A high degree of mental alertness is required to ensure the safety of self and others as working with heavy equipment, vehicles, unpredictable traffic conditions, tools and hazardous chemicals is required. Hours of work are scheduled within the core operating hours of 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. A flexible schedule is required to account of operational coverage outside of core hours, including emergencies, holidays, weekends, on-call and seasonal shifts.

Hourly Range:

$41.29 to $48.57 per hour.
