Our Financial Services Department is seeking to fill the role of Treasury Assistant for a one-year, full-time contract for the purpose of covering a parental leave. Under the direction of the Manager of Taxation & Revenue / Deputy Treasurer the Treasury Assistant is responsible for providing accounting and financial services including payroll processing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable, and utility processing. Provides cash management including cash receipting and bank deposits.
The primary focus of the role will be coordinating the accounting and administrative functions for Water, Sewer, Solid Waste Collection and Recycling, including billings, adjustments and specialized accounts receivable. Preparing and issuing water, sewer, solid waste collection and recycling / utility billings. Initiates late payment processes and conducts collections on overdue accounts. Provides support to the Manager of Taxation & Revenue / Deputy Treasurer including customer service support relating to property tax enquiries.
The Ideal Candidate
· We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional that is willing to obtain or has the following:
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Business Administration or an equivalent program.
- Completion of the Municipal Administration and Finance Program (MAFP) is considered an asset.
- 1-3 years of relevant experience in accounting or finance.
- Experience in a financial municipal environment is considered an asset.
- Proven knowledge and experience in accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Sound working knowledge of accounting software (Asyst), and Microsoft 365.
- Excellent interpersonal skills working with staff and providing customer service.
- Ability to work as a team player.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast paced working environment, while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow procedures and to request assistance when necessary.

Working Conditions:
Work occurs in an in-office environment with a high degree of public contact, as well as exposure to highly sensitive and confidential issues, which may be of a personal nature. This position requires long periods of sitting, as well as consistent visual concentration upon computer screens. Occasional lifting of boxes is required. Hours of work are scheduled within the core operating hours of 8:30 A.M. – 4:30 P.M., Monday through Friday. Occasional overtime may be required to deal with peak periods.
