The Municipality of South Huron invites applications for the position of Environmental Services Summer Co-Op Student. This position assists in the day-to-day operations for environmental services in an effective, efficient, safe and environmentally responsible manner. This position will involve fire hydrant maintenance, valve operation and maintenance, water and wastewater sampling, water distribution repairs under the direction of the Environmental Services Foreman. This position will also include monitoring compliance with provincial and federal regulations and maintain necessary records.

The ideal candidate must have:

•    Secondary School Diploma or equivalent education and experience.
•    Completion or working towards University degree / College diploma in Environmental Technician – Water & Wastewater System Operations or equivalent. 
•    Operator in Training (OIT) certification in water distribution, water treatment, wastewater treatment, and sewage collection systems. 
•    Required health and safety training certification will be provided. 
•    Standard First Aid with CPR & AED Level C is considered an asset. 
•    Confined Space Entry (CSE) Certification is considered an asset. 
•    Valid G Class Driver’s License with a driver’s abstract deemed satisfactory by the Municipality.
•    Works effectively as a member of a team. 

·    Working Conditions:

Work involves a substantial amount of heavy lifting, carrying, crawling and climbing. Operations continue in all weather, including sever conditions such as freezing roads, blizzards and white outs with poor visibility, slippery conditions and confined spaces. Regular work in environmental hazardous conditions (i.e. wastewater treatment plant, and sewage pumping stations). A high degree of mental alertness is required to ensure the safety of self and others as working with heavy equipment, vehicles, unpredictable traffic conditions, tolls and hazardous chemicals is required. Hours of work are scheduled within the core operating hours of 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. After hours call-in and overtime may be required during emergencies. 

Hourly Range:

$26.21 per hour.

The Municipality of South Huron is hiring for the position of Wading Pool Attendant. The Wading Pool attendant must provide supervision to ensure a safe, enjoyable environment, and be capable of providing first aid treatment where necessary. The Wading Pool Attendant is responsible for supervision, accident prevention, public education and public relations to those using the pool. Monitors and controls access to the wading pool. Must have the ability to protect the safety of swimmers effectively and efficiently. Other responsibilities include the keeping the wading pool clean and clear of debris to ensure safety and ease of use.

The ideal candidate possesses the following:

• Pool Attendant Certification.
• Current Standard First Aid with CPR Level C.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to deal with the public with diplomacy and tact.
• Ability to adhere to Municipal policies and procedures.

Working conditions

Work occurs in an outdoor environment with a high degree of public contact, as well as exposure to highly sensitive and confidential issues, which may be of a personal nature. Regular lifting, carrying and management of supplies for the practice of lifesaving techniques. Hours of work are scheduled within the core operating hours of the wading pool facility Monday through Sunday.

Hourly Wage

The Municipality of South Huron invites applications for the position of Seasonal Labourer – Summer Operations. Under the direction of the Foreperson of Community Services, this position is responsible for providing facility maintenance on municipal property and facilities. Responsible for all areas of municipal facilities including arenas, community halls, open spaces, parks and trails, playing fields, municipal cemeteries and Port Blake Day Park. Provides assistance to the public in a friendly and professional manner while promoting the health and safety of colleagues and the public.

This position is a seasonal position that provides a great opportunity for high school and post-secondary students on their summer break.

A high degree of mental alertness is required to ensure the safety of self and others as working with equipment, vehicles, unpredictable traffic conditions, and tools is required. A flexible schedule is required to account for operational coverage outside of core hours, including weekends, overtime or call-in shifts.

Hourly Range:

$19.57 to $23.03 per hour.

We are now hiring for aquatic positions for summer 2025! 

Lifeguards / Swimming Instructors must provide pool and wading pool supervision to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment, and be capable of providing first aid treatment where necessary. The Lifeguards / Swimming Instructors will be responsible for the overall safety of a variety of swimmers utilizing the Exeter pool facilities, Exeter wading pool and must have the ability to effectively and efficiently protect the safety of swimmers. Other responsibilities include the maintenance of the pool areas to ensure safety and ease of use. Applicants must have all appropriate certifications. 
 

Qualifications:

•    Current Standard First Aid with CPR C
•    Current National Lifeguard Certification
•    Current Swim Instructor Certification is considered an asset
•    Effective verbal, listening and communication skills
•    Effective public relations skills
•    Possesses cultural awareness and sensitivity

The Municipality of South Huron invites applications for the position of Foreperson of Transportation Services. Under the direction of the Manager of Transportation Services, this position is responsible for supervising staff and the day-to-day operations of the transportation department and maintenance of vehicles and small engines. This position is responsible for monitoring municipal roads to meet provincial minimum standards while ensuring excellent customer service is maintained at all times. This positions also includes the organizing and planning of incoming work orders, and orientation and training of new employees on the safe operation of equipment.

The ideal candidate must have:

·         College diploma in transportation or civil engineering

·         Certified Roads Supervisor (CRS) designation, or willing to work towards
