As a result of a vacancy, our Transportation Services Division is seeking to fill the role of Manager of Transportation Services. Reporting directly to the General Manager of Infrastructure and Development, the Manager of Transportation Services is responsible for directing, monitoring and overseeing the activities of the Transportation Services Department. You will be responsible to effectively plan, prioritize and ensure the successful implementation of the Transportation Services Department maintenance and construction programs. You will provide recommendations and advice to the General Manager of Infrastructure and Development.
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional that has the following:
· Post-secondary education in civil engineering or a related discipline
· A minimum of 7 years’ experience in a leadership role in a municipal roads department.
· Thorough working knowledge of municipal government, legislation/regulations/standards, including Minimum Maintenance Standards, and contemporary management practices.
· Certified Roads Supervisor (CRS) designation
· Possesses strong management and supervisory skills, record keeping, problem solving, project / time management, analytical, communication skills, both oral and written and shall exhibit excellent interpersonal skills.
· Ability to think and act appropriately in a political and community service environment and to deal courteously and effectively with elected officials, the general public, residents, staff, other departments, corporate contacts and other levels of government.
· Experience in writing and implementing financial policies and developing sound business processes.
· Excellent interpersonal, project/time/records management, organizational, analytical, research, communication, presentation, problem solving, and staff leadership and supervisory skills.
· Knowledge and experience with operational and capital budget preparation.
· Ability to establish and assign priorities, work programs and tasks for division staff and purchased professional series and ensure that the tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner, to meet Council and established service levels and deadlines.
· Possess a valid “G” Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract deemed satisfactory by the Municipality, a DZ or AZ license is considered an asset.
· Proper operation, care and maintenance of departmental equipment and other resources of the Transportation Services Division.

Working Conditions
Work occurs in an office environment at an Operations Centre, with a high degree of public contact, as well as exposure to highly sensitive and confidential issues, which may be of a personal nature. This position requires long periods of sitting as well as consistent visual concentration upon computer screens.
Operations continue in all weather, including severe conditions such as freezing rain, blizzards and white outs with poor visibility and slippery conditions. A high degree of mental alertness is required to ensure the safety of self and others as working with and around heavy equipment, vehicles, unpredictable traffic conditions, tools and hazardous chemicals is required. Hours of work as scheduled within the core operating hours of 7:30 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.
