South Huron is an active participant in the Communities in Bloom competition.  Communities in Bloom is a non-profit organization that strives to increase civic pride, community spirit, environmental awareness, beautification and quality of life. Communities in Bloom is about the entire community coming and working together to create a beautiful, thriving, safe and active municipality.  Communities in Bloom is a wonderful opportunity to showcase both the beauty and spirit of our great municipality. Legacy Garden

Buy-A-Brick and help build the Legacy Garden at the Municipal Office/Exeter Library. The Communities in Bloom committee is offering this unique opportunity to make a memory by purchasing a brick. Communities in Bloom - 2014

South Huron reached its goal and earned 5 blooms . South Huron Communities in Bloom increasing score to 87.35%  from 85.45% in 2013 .Events included Let’s talk trees  seminar with  Ian Jean ABCA and James Corcoran Ministry of Transportation,  Paint the town with  presentation by art historian Tom Smart (former curator of McMichael Gallery) who will spoke on "the Group of Seven ....and beyond. The annual tree sale sponsored by CIB was sold out . Mark Cullen Night  sponsored by  Home hardware was a tremendous success. Yearly programs include  Wheel Barrels contest, Golden Broom Award , Litter Lifter Award- Adopt a Highway- and flower barrel . Projects in 2014 were  Exeter Villa garden , Thames road landscaping   and  splash pad landscaping planting.

In 2012, South Huron reached its goal and earned 5 blooms! Many thanks goes to the South Huron Communities in Bloom volunteers for their hard work and dedication.

Communities in Bloom - 2011

In 2011, South Huron earned 4 blooms and the goal for 2012 is 5 blooms which is the highest rating before competing nationally. The committee is always seeking new members to help achieve their 5 bloom goal.

The new project for the CIB committee is to make our South Huron community a "walkable community". This includes projects to improve existing and to create new safe and esthetically pleasing walking surfaces that would encourage more walking about and less dependancy on vehicle transportation within the community.

Communities in Bloom - 2010

In 2010, South Huron participated in the competition for communities within 5,001 to 10,000 population category.  Our community was judged on the following eight criteria: tidiness, environmental awareness, community involvement, natural and cultural heritage conservation, tree and urban forest management, landscaped areas, floral displays and turn and groundcovers and received a 4 Bloom rating.

Communities in Bloom - 2009

In 2009, South Huron participated in the competition for communities within 5,001  to 10,000 population and received a 4 Bloom rating with a score of 74.9.  Once again, our community was judged on the following eight criteria: tidiness, environmental awareness, community involvement, natural and cultural heritage conservation, tree and urban forest management, landscaped areas, floral displays and turn and groundcovers.

South Huron - Communities in Bloom Initiatives

They have also provided Green Cone Food Waste Digesters in order for your beautiful garden to delve into nutrient-rich soil.  WIth a few guiding instructions, the Digester will trap warm air and ciruclate it over food waste.  Your job is to use the bio-bag provided as a food waste carrier to the Green Cone.  You can purchase the Food Waste Digester for $80.

To keep Downtown Exeter and South Huron as a whole tidy, brand new recycling containers and an ashtray station have been placed outside the Town Hall.  Please feel free to make use of these containers to reduce the amount of litter on Main Street.

The Communities in Bloom team has partnered with Tim Hortons to clean up South Huron!

If a member of the Communities in Bloom team spots you picking up garbage in South Huron, you will receive a free coupon to Exeter Tim Hortons.

Communities in Bloom encourages everyone to stop and pick up garbage on streets, sidewalks, parks, parking lots etc.
